Wednesday, July 16th- My water breaks... the day after my doctor's visit reveals that I still haven't started dialating. The funny thing is, I feel better than I have in weeks. No contractions, but also, no pain anywhere else either(i.e. legs, back, butt, everywhere that had been killing me the night before). We go to the hospital where they can't figure out what is going on because all the tests say it hasn't broken, AND I still haven't dialated at all, and I still have no contractions. Whose water breaks when they aren't even dialated at all? It is finally determine that I wasn't just peeing my pants, and since it had been more than 5 hours since it 1st broke, it was determined that I was going to need some pitocin...YUCK! I am pleased to report that the rest of the delivery went well. The hypnobirthing worked wonders and with no epidural, no episiotomy, no vaccum, in fact with only 4 or 5 pushes, Kayson was here. What an incredible moment. I have to say that there is nothing like holding your baby for the 1st time. Both times are just burned into my memory. It makes me weepy just thinking about it. Oh! Also, he was born on My dad's birthday! Kayson's middle name is Sollis, since he and Grandpa Sollis share the same B-day.
Thursday July 17th- Our Anniversary. We celebrated by not eating the pasta that the hospital provided. Karl went and got some take out from Rumbi, and we watched a Queen concert on PBS. Happy Anniversary Karl! What a crazy, wonderful 7 it's been.
Friday July 18th- We get to go home! Yay! A joyous reunion was shared. Riser was so excited to have his little brother home.

Saturday July 19th- Kayson has a doctor's visit to check his Jaundice levels. When we get to the doctor's office, we find that his levels have risen 4 points, he has lost a whole pound and he has a fever of 100.4. We are told that we needed to take him to Primary Children's immediatly. I was so scared. Karl's wonderful parents again took Riser, and Karl and I spent the rest of the day watching our 3 day old get an IV, blood tests, urine tests, and a spinal tap. (well, Karl watched. I couldn't do it. I spent the time crying in the waiting room) The doctors start him on all kinds of medications, and by the end of the day, his fever is down.

Sunday July 20th- Kayson continues to do well, but still isn't peeing. He is started on IV fluids to try and get things going. It seems to help and he continues to improve. Karl and I go to church at the hospital. What an amazing experience. Watching families come in with their little guys all hooked up to all sorts of tubes and machines, but the feeling in the room wasn't hopeless. It was pure peace. It was so full of the Spirit. I felt so comforted by the time the meeting was over.

Also, I just have to take a minute to talk about Primary Children's. What an amazing place! I was so impressed with every nurse and doctor and Tech that we had. The love they showed my little guy was amazing. They have such an amazing way of taking a scary stressful situation and making it o.k. They are amazing.
Moday July 21st- Kayson continues to do well. All the tests are negative for bacteria, and the doctors conclude that Kayson had Viral Meningitis. Not as scary as it sounds. Apparently Bacterial is the scary kind. Most people have probably had Viral Meningitis and just didn't know it. Think way bad flu with a horrible headache... probably Viral Meningitis. They just don't do Spinal Taps on big people unless they are really sick... Anyway, it looked like it had run it's course, and so we were discharged... again!!! We felt really blessed. Another happy reunion was held, and Karl and Riser played in some flour to celebrate.

Tuesday Jully 22nd- We all spent the day together just relaxing. So nice to be home together again! Riser loves his little brother and wants to hold him all the time.
Wednesday July 23rd- Kayson turns 1 week old. One heck of a week!! Here's hoping this next one is a little quieter!

HOLY COW Jenny! Well, I have been wondering why the blog has been so quiet with you new little guy to take pictures of all the time. What a relief that everything is ok, and how smart of you guys to be so on the ball. He is so precious! I am so sorry you guys had to go through that, any parent can empathize with what it's like to worry about your child. It is the worst. But, I am so happy all is well. You deserve a night out, or something. BATMAN??????
Oh man... what a crazy week! I can't even imagine what it would be like to have my little guy in the hospital hooked up to stuff like that... you're a trooper! I'm so glad he's doing good and back at home!
I'm a little jealous that Riser likes his little brother... Jaxon pretty much could care less about Kole...the only time he pays attention to him is to steal his binky or bottle. So that rocks.
I think its cool that Kayson was born on his grandpa's bday!... so was Kole! And they were both named after them too! What a cool bday present huh?
Hey we're going to be down in SL this weekend.... are you up to visitors yet? I know how crazy and hectic it can be...so i wont be offended if you'd rather us not stop by. but one of these days we need pics of our two boys together. I'll bring my camera and stuff just in case... :)
PS... Happy Anniversary... i can't believe its been 7 yrs already!
Hi Jenny,
My mom forwarded me pics of little Kayson and your blog address. Congrats! I'm so glad he's okay and back home. I got all emotional reading about your experience at Primary Children's, our Gracie had to spend her first 10 days there with pnemonia. These babies are so fragile yet so tough! Congrats again and glad the family is doing well. --Becky Beck
What a roller coaster having kids is! We're so grateful that Kayson is recovering so well. Can't wait to see his in a about a week! We love you guys.
Jenny, you guys are tough cookies! It makes me teary just reading your story. Sick babies are so scary. I am glad that everything is better this week. I love all the pictures. Both of your boys are cuties.
I can't believe you survived the pitocin without an epidural. You go girl! When my water broke, I wasn't in labor either and so I had to be induced. The pitocin was horrible and I had the epidural as soon as I could. I am a wimp!
Have a good week and enjoy your new little one!
I am so glad he is ok what a tough little guy. He is so cute and brett and i can't wait to see him.
Scary stuff to deal with...I'm glad he's better and at home now.
Congrats on the new little guy!! I'm so glad he's all better - how scary!! What a cute little thing he is though! Are you getting any sleep? Did Karl make it to Batman? Dont ya love it when you try to tell the doctors you're having this freakin' kid and they tell you you're not and then you're right???
Congrats on the new little guy. Sorry you've had a rough start. Hopefully this week was much better for you.
Jen congrats on your birth. So sorry about the complications after. So scary. My sister-in-laws brother went through that same exact thing with their new baby. I wonder if they were born same day same hospital. I'll find out. Their baby is fine now too.
Again. You are a champion. What a woman!
Conrats on your new addition! Glad to hear things are going okay now.
