Our Crazy Week in Review

Well, what an exciting week our family has had. You have heard a little already when Karl posted right after Kayson was born, so I'll try not to do too much backtracking...

Wednesday, July 16th- My water breaks... the day after my doctor's visit reveals that I still haven't started dialating. The funny thing is, I feel better than I have in weeks. No contractions, but also, no pain anywhere else either(i.e. legs, back, butt, everywhere that had been killing me the night before). We go to the hospital where they can't figure out what is going on because all the tests say it hasn't broken, AND I still haven't dialated at all, and I still have no contractions. Whose water breaks when they aren't even dialated at all? It is finally determine that I wasn't just peeing my pants, and since it had been more than 5 hours since it 1st broke, it was determined that I was going to need some pitocin...YUCK! I am pleased to report that the rest of the delivery went well. The hypnobirthing worked wonders and with no epidural, no episiotomy, no vaccum, in fact with only 4 or 5 pushes, Kayson was here. What an incredible moment. I have to say that there is nothing like holding your baby for the 1st time. Both times are just burned into my memory. It makes me weepy just thinking about it. Oh! Also, he was born on My dad's birthday! Kayson's middle name is Sollis, since he and Grandpa Sollis share the same B-day.

Thursday July 17th- Our Anniversary. We celebrated by not eating the pasta that the hospital provided. Karl went and got some take out from Rumbi, and we watched a Queen concert on PBS. Happy Anniversary Karl! What a crazy, wonderful 7 it's been.

Friday July 18th- We get to go home! Yay! A joyous reunion was shared. Riser was so excited to have his little brother home.

Saturday July 19th- Kayson has a doctor's visit to check his Jaundice levels. When we get to the doctor's office, we find that his levels have risen 4 points, he has lost a whole pound and he has a fever of 100.4. We are told that we needed to take him to Primary Children's immediatly. I was so scared. Karl's wonderful parents again took Riser, and Karl and I spent the rest of the day watching our 3 day old get an IV, blood tests, urine tests, and a spinal tap. (well, Karl watched. I couldn't do it. I spent the time crying in the waiting room) The doctors start him on all kinds of medications, and by the end of the day, his fever is down.

Sunday July 20th- Kayson continues to do well, but still isn't peeing. He is started on IV fluids to try and get things going. It seems to help and he continues to improve. Karl and I go to church at the hospital. What an amazing experience. Watching families come in with their little guys all hooked up to all sorts of tubes and machines, but the feeling in the room wasn't hopeless. It was pure peace. It was so full of the Spirit. I felt so comforted by the time the meeting was over.

Also, I just have to take a minute to talk about Primary Children's. What an amazing place! I was so impressed with every nurse and doctor and Tech that we had. The love they showed my little guy was amazing. They have such an amazing way of taking a scary stressful situation and making it o.k. They are amazing.

Moday July 21st- Kayson continues to do well. All the tests are negative for bacteria, and the doctors conclude that Kayson had Viral Meningitis. Not as scary as it sounds. Apparently Bacterial is the scary kind. Most people have probably had Viral Meningitis and just didn't know it. Think way bad flu with a horrible headache... probably Viral Meningitis. They just don't do Spinal Taps on big people unless they are really sick... Anyway, it looked like it had run it's course, and so we were discharged... again!!! We felt really blessed. Another happy reunion was held, and Karl and Riser played in some flour to celebrate.

Tuesday Jully 22nd- We all spent the day together just relaxing. So nice to be home together again! Riser loves his little brother and wants to hold him all the time.

Wednesday July 23rd- Kayson turns 1 week old. One heck of a week!! Here's hoping this next one is a little quieter!

He's Here!

Kayson Lundeberg is here. Jenny woke up yesterday surprised to find that her water had broke. We dropped Riser off at the grandparents and headed for the hospital. Riser, having heard us tell Grandma about Jenny's water being broke, continued to spend the rest of the day staring at the garden hose saying "Water broke?!"

After some tests were run at the hospital the nurses told us that Jenny's water hadn't really broken. They were about to send us home when Jenny insisted they keep testing. They did another test and found that the water had indeed broken, Jenny however, was still not making any progress. They decided to induce her, yada yada yada and at 7:36 PM Kayson made his way into the world. He is 8 lbs. 3 oz. and 21 inches long. Everything went so perfect. Mother and boy are doing great.

Here are some of the pics of the great day. I needed to include Riser in his new Batman PJ's that Grandma Kelly bought him. Pretty cool.

Happy 4th!

Our weekend started off at cousin Ethan's Birthday party. I can't believe he is 5. Crazy stuff. Riser had a very good time. When we got there, E and Tan were swimming in their kiddie pool, so Riser was anxious to get in there too. He spent the entire evening going from the pool to the sand box and back to the pool.....and then back to the sandbox... the pool was not looking so great by the time he got through. Sorry Cynth and Bri! I am not even sure if he slowed down long enough to eat some cake. Ohh!! I almost forgot! The real low point of the evening for Riser was when Ethan got this car that transforms into a gorilla and goes around in a circle beating it's chest.... Freaked Riser out... I've never seen him scream like that in my life. Karl tried to get him to understand that it was just a toy, but he wanted that thing to stay far far away... I have to admit, it kind of made me laugh... Anyway, Happy Birthday E! We love you! (p.s. this photo was stolen from Cynth's blog... Thanks Cynth!)

The next Morning we woke up early and headed to the IHOP for breakfast with Karl's family and then we all went to the parade. Riser thought it was fabulous. He's been talking about it all week. His favorite parts were the dancing girls, watching all the bands play the drums, the big pig balloon, and of course all the candy that was thrown.

The whole crew after breakfast, getting ready for the parade to start. Kamille was there too, but I don't know where she's at... Nicole and Michelle, a rare picture of me pregnant, as per your request.

One excited little boy waiting for the parade to begin.

Riser and Kennedy playing with their Candy bags... We decided that they looked like they could be twins that day.

Watching the drums go by. Whenever he would see the drums, he stopped whatever he was doing and was just completely glued to the drummers until he couldn't see them anymore.

Later that evening, we headed up to the cabin to meet up with my parents. We went and got shakes, and then found a nice spot to watch the Midway Fireworks. Again, Riser loved it. He keeps telling me all about the fireworks and the "drums in the sky". He'd like to go see some more... I guess it is good that the 24th is coming up!

Saturday, we went shopping with my parents and then Karl and I took Riser swimming at the lake. It had been a beautiful day all day long, but the minute we got to the lake the clouds appeared and it got windy... I got a little worried that Riser would be too cold. I shouldn't have worried. He is WAY braver than his mom! He and Karl ran right in and before I knew it they were splashing around and having a great time... It took me about 10 minutes of shivering in the shallow water before I could convince myself to just get out there and swim, but I finally decided that if I'm living in a house full of boys, I better stop being a wimp. By the time Riser was finally finished, he was shaking, but he had a great big grin on his face. We let him "dig in the dirt" For a while and then headed back up to the cabin.
Mom and Riser after our big swim. Riser is still trying to warm up. The sun came out right after we were done, so that helped everyone feel nice and cozy again.

Daddy and Riser at the Lake. What great buddies!

Riser diggin in the dirt... One of his favorite things to do.

What a fun weekend! Thanks families for letting us hang out! We love you guys!

The Doctor Froerer quote of the day...

"With your history with your 1st baby, and with where your at right now, it wouldn't be unusual for you to go into August." I think I might be pregnant forever...

Karl gets his wish... or... No progress what so ever

A few months ago, o.k. well actually when he heard that they were making another one, Karl started getting really excited about the new Batman movie coming out. I know, hard to believe right? Anyway, when we found out that we were due July 28th, I started teasing him that I would probably go into labor on the 18th of July. I kept asking him if he would go to the hospital with me, or just send one of our moms. He told me that I wasn't allowed to have the child until at least 19th. Well... apparently the boy is on his side. I went to the doctor on Thursday and found that we have made no progress. I told my doctor that I was planning on August since Riser was so late. He laughed and said, "Well, you probably won't make it quite to August, but I'd plan on the end of July". I guess this is what the boys inherit from me... never early... Right on time or a little late! The good news is, Karl will get to go to The Dark Knight opening night. I think he might already have his tickets.

The Saturday of His Dreams...

It all began with cleaning out the garage. Most people wouldn't put that on their list of things they love to do, but when you're almost 2, the garage is probably about as cool as Disneyland. Our garage has been so messy, that I just kind of rush Riser in whenever we get home, so he was so excited that he got to "explore" all the great things that are in there... brooms, shovels, wheelbarrow, the weed eater... so much fun! I didn't take any pictures, because I didn't anticipate it being that good of a time.

After that we moved on to cleaning out my car. Again, who knew it could be that much fun? He washed the windows (they looked great), "helped" vacuum, found money. Talk about a good time. Again, no pics... who knew?

By this time the poor lad was exhausted so we had lunch (one of his favs, fruit and peanut butter sandwiches), got cleaned up (he was really gross) and took a nap.

When he woke up, he jumped in our freshly cleaned car (of which he reminded us the entire drive... "clean car" "clean car") and headed down to discovery gateway. We had wanted to take him to see all his great sesame street friends in their exhibit, but sadly when we got there, we had missed it... I think by only a few days... The good news is, when your almost 2, you don't care that you missed it. You just get excited about everything else there is to do.
He loved the vacuum tubes. IT took him a while to figure out how to make the ball stay in the tube.
My little Musician. He really wanted us to figure out how to play "sunbeam" for him. Dad did a good job figuring it out for him.
I think one of the best parts of the day for Riser, was just hanging out with Dad. They are such good buddies.
Ah, the water... we spent much time here. Always one of Riser's favorites.
Climbing the wall with Dad. What a big boy.

After we were done at the museum, we went to dinner at Z tejas, where Riser ate half the "cake" (cornbread) all by himself. He thought he had really hit the jackpot. Cake for dinner? Yay!

Once dinner was done, we walked down to what was the highlight of his very eventful Saturday... The fountains. The kid was hilarious.
At first he just watched with a big smile on his face.
Then he got braver.
and braver...
And eventually, completely soaked. He was so funny. He was laughing so hard. People that didn't even know him were stopping to watch him run in and just laugh as he got sprayed. My little water loving kid. My stomach hurt I was laughing so hard. We were finally able to drag him away, and he said "bye bye water" the whole way back to the car. What a fun day. As you can imagine, he slept very well that night.

The Digger, and the Great Big Hole

My parents are adding on to their kitchen and basement, so last week the digger showed up to dig the hole. Riser was sooooo impressed with digger. he was ready to jump out the window and climb in with the worker.

After the digger was done, they had one REALLY big hole. Uncle Matt took Riser down to explore the big pit, and then Riser spent the rest of the day trying to convince me that I should go down there with him. We might have even made it down... It was the getting a pregnant me back out of the hole that made me think it wasn't a great idea. He had to settle for looking out the window with Ethan.
